Here I am again, the glowing screen in my hand the only light in the room. Here I am again, mindlessly scrolling through feed after feed. Here I am again, exchanging true rest and purpose for absentminded snooping and boredom.

This brings new perspective to Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:6:

“Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.”

Am I giving what is holy to that which serves no purpose? Do I let myself get distracted by lesser things, embroiled in small squabbles and finite fights?

Endlessly scrolling social media, aimlessly loading news, mindlessly binging episodes and surfing television…God calls believers to something better and more fulfilling. Let us rather go deep together in the study of God’s Word and allow it to inform and transform how we live. Let us stop the scroll and place pearls where God calls us to place them. Let us engage purposefully, on social media and in person, in the discussions that matter. Let us carve out times of rest in the busyness of commitments and expectations.  Let us live this day well, for the glory of God.

“Let all that you do be done in love…The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.” (1 Corinthians 16:14, 23-24 ESV)
